Inputs

Board lengths are sold in centimetres in every market. Your length is printed on the board.

Either S or M fits. Choose the smaller for less weight, the larger if your board has a long nose.

Length, Width and Tail Clips

The size in the chart is length only. Splitboard skins come in pairs at a generic width and you cut them to the outline of your two halves with the trim tool that comes with them, leaving the metal edges uncovered.

The overlap between sizes is deliberate; G3 calls it generous sizing overlap. In the overlap the smaller size saves weight, and the larger covers a board with a long nose.

Burton notes that some board shapes need a tail clip update. Swallowtail and fish shapes such as the Burton 3D Fish are the ones to check before the first tour.

Where these numbers come from

The sizes come from Burton and G3, from the splitboard skin size chart the two publish, including the size each Burton board is matched with.

Other skin makers size differently. G3 sells its own universal splitboard skins in S/M for 144 to 162 cm and M/L for 154 to 172 cm, and Pomoca, Kohla and Black Diamond publish their own charts, so check the maker of the skins you are buying.

Frequently asked questions

What size skins for a 158 splitboard?

A 158 cm board sits in the overlap of two Burton x G3 sizes, S (146 to 160 cm) and M (158 to 172 cm), so either fits. S is lighter; M leaves room for a board with a long nose. Burton puts its Hometown Hero 158 in M.

Do splitboard skins need to be trimmed?

Yes. Splitboard skins are sold in pairs at a generic width and cut to the shape of your two halves with the trim tool that comes in the box. The size in the chart covers length only.

Can I use ski skins on a splitboard?

Not without changes. Splitboard skins have tip and tail attachments made for the shape of a splitboard half, and ski skins are cut for a ski. Buy skins sized for your board length, or skins that fit your splitboard model.

How long do splitboard skins last?

It depends on how you store and dry them more than on the calendar. Keep the glue clean and dry and store them glue to glue. The skin care page covers drying, storage and when to re-glue or replace them.
